Women on Wednesdays Series Features Panelists Discussing ‘The Vagina Monologues’

Wednesday, February 10

The Women's Center will present, "Performing 'The Vagina Monologues' as a Means for Women's Empowerment" as a part of its Women on Wednesdays (WOW) lecture series at noon on Feb. 10 in the Atwood Theatre on the campus of St. Cloud State.

"The Vagina Monologues," a play written by Eve Ensler, celebrates women's sexuality and strength. This celebration has given rise to V-day, a global movement to stop violence against women and girls by raising money through benefit performances of this piece.

The event will consist of four panelists: Catherine Bjertness, Drea Dunkle, Catherine (Cat) Salonek and Brianne Perreten. These veteran cast members will discuss how performing this piece has impacted their lives.

The WOW series was created 20 years ago as a small-group, discussion-based program. Although the series has changed its format from an informal discussion to a lecture-based presentation style, it still holds true to its original purpose of highlighting the voices of a diverse, intelligent, savvy and creative group of women. In spite of its humble beginnings, the WOW series has become a significant institutionalized program at the University supported by faculty, staff and students.

The St. Cloud State University Women's Center, established in 1989, offers learning experiences that help women transform themselves and society. Their educational programs reflect the diverse views of women from all walks of life.  The center provides advocacy, support, programs, resources and opportunities to translate concerns into action.
