RDO Equipment Co. has reached a definitive agreement to acquire True North Equipment’s John Deere agriculture locations in North Dakota and Minnesota, with the deal expected to close Aug. 3, 2026, pending final approval by John Deere. The move will expand RDO’s integrated service area across northern North Dakota and northwest Minnesota, strengthening support for growers throughout the region.
The acquisition brings all 200 True North team members and eight store locations — along with two facilities — into RDO’s organization. These sites include Grand Forks, Grafton and Northwood in North Dakota and Thief River Falls, Warren, Kennedy, Mahnomen and Baudette in Minnesota. When added to RDO’s existing footprint, the company will operate more than 100 locations nationwide, including over a dozen in Minnesota.
True North Equipment, founded in 1897 in Grafton, North Dakota, has grown through generations of family ownership and investment in technology and service. Its owners say the decision to transition the company to RDO reflects shared values, a commitment to employees and a belief that customers will benefit from expanded resources.
RDO Equipment Co., part of a family-owned business headquartered in Fargo, North Dakota, traces its roots to 1964, when Ron Offutt began farming potatoes with his father before purchasing his first John Deere dealership in 1968. Today, RDO employs more than 4,000 people across its multi-state and international operations.
Leaders from both organizations say the combination will honor True North’s legacy while creating new opportunities to invest in technology, strengthen customer relationships and enhance service capabilities for growers across the region.
