Duluth, Minn.-based Cirrus Aircraft officially opened its $11 million, 30,000‑square‑foot expansion of its manufacturing facility in Grand Forks, N.D. yesterday. The investment was made to boost production capacity for its SR Series piston aircraft and Vision Jet as global demand continues to rise, according to the company.
The newly added space creates a “purpose‑built manufacturing layout” that streamlines composite‑part movement, enhances automation, improves equipment integration with business systems and strengthens workplace safety. The improvements align with Cirrus’ broader modernization efforts, including work tied to its TRAC10 training aircraft program previously covered by MinnesotaBusiness.com.
Cirrus CEO Zean Nielsen notes in a press release that the facility will also manufacture composites for the new TRAC10, which Cirrus expects to be a major growth driver in the flight‑training market.
Pat Waddick, president of innovation and operations, emphasized the long‑standing partnership between Cirrus and the Grand Forks community. “Our success starts with our people and our supportive community. This investment allows us to create an even better environment for our team while expanding the capacity and capabilities needed to support our continued growth.”
The Grand Forks operation employs about 500 people, roughly 80 percent of whom work in direct manufacturing. The added footprint provides flexibility for future innovation and supports Cirrus’ seven‑location U.S. network, including its Duluth headquarters.
